 Music Therapy

Music therapy is the skillful use of music and musical elements by an accredited music therapist to promote, maintain, and restore mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

Music therapy is defined broadly as the use of music in the treatment of people of all ages who have problems of a mental, physical, and/or emotional nature. Because of the large variety of problems patients' experience, the profession of music therapy is beginning to encourage specialization at the graduate level in both music therapy practice and training.

Music therapy is a technique of complementary medicine that uses music prescribed in a skilled manner by trained therapists. Programs are designed to help patients overcome physical, emotional, intellectual, and social challenges

This Therapy is an established health profession in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages.  Therapists use both instrumental and vocal music strategies to facilitate changes that are non-musical in nature. Music therapy is the functional and scientific application of music by a trained music therapist to enhance an individual's social, emotional, educational, and behavioral development.

The music therapist must be a credentialed, professional therapist and trained musician who generally functions as part of a treatment team in a medical, educational, or community-based program.

This therapy is particularly effective with children. The sensory stimulation and playful nature of music can help to develop a child's ability to express emotion, communicate, and develop rhythmic movement.   Music therapy is used by health care professionals to promote healing and enhance quality of life for their patients. It is particularly useful with autistic children owing in part to the nonverbal, non threatening nature of the medium. Parallel music activities are designed to support the objectives of the child as observed by the therapist or as indicated by a parent, teacher or other professional. Music therapy is a wonderful way to encourage development and learning in infants and toddlers. Music stimulates all of the senses and involves the child at many levels

Music therapy may be used to encourage emotional expression, promote social interaction, relieve symptoms, and for other purposes. This healing therapy is also powerful, but, at the same time, non-threatening medium.

Music therapy can be used for the restoration, maintenance and improvement of mental and physical health. The therapists use the inherent qualities of music to affect healing and change. Music therapy is "musician-proof" and has nothing to do with the musical ability of clients. This therapy is a technique of complementary medicine that uses music prescribed in a skilled manner by trained therapists. Programs are designed to help patients overcome physical, emotional, intellectual, and social challenges.

More resent research suggests that music can increase patient's motivation and positive emotions. Current research also suggests that when music therapy is used in conjunction with traditional therapy it improves success rates significantly. Therefore, it is hypothesized that music therapy helps stroke victims recover faster and with more success by increasing the patient's positive emotions and motivation, allowing them to be more successful and driven to participate in traditional therapies.

Therapists found that participants who received music therapy in conjunction with traditional methods had improved social interaction and mood. Therapists can also help residents that suffer from Alzheimer`s and dementia, because studies have found that music can improve their memory. This improvement is partly due to the effect music has on increasing the release of certain hormones in the body .

Music therapy is a branch of the behavioral sciences gaining wide acceptance in medical, institutional and educational settings.

 Enthusiasm

Enthusiasm, passion, eagerness, fervor, or gusto is a few names to describe this special "something" some people posses. That secret factor of achievement most successful people have as well as the initiator for success in their lives. Enthusiasm can be explained as a fascinating or calculating control of the psyche by any interest or quest.

All the positivity, all your dreams and visions will come to nothing if you are not excited about your goals. You must first believe in what you are doing.  Learn as much about your idea or the theory that you are engaged in. Research your subject and get all the information possible.  The more you learn, the more you make your goal part of your life, and your enthusiasm for it will grow.

When you are excited about what you do you will be more productive, original, creative and effective.   However enthusiasm is delicate.  It can easily vanish in thin air.  Learn how to keep up your passion amid discouragement or critique……controls your thoughts.  Keep negative thoughts out of your mind.  There is nothing that will dampen your eagerness more than negative and inharmonious thoughts.  To overcome this establishes in your mind what you want to achieve and then with passion, willpower and real purpose go for it.   Make sure nothing stand in your way. Meet your problems, difficulties and challenges head on and overcame them.

There is a joy in overcoming your problems that will sharpen your intellectual tools while you grow in wisdom, strength, and understanding. Nothing else is as helpful as an optimistic, expectant way of thinking, the attitude which looks for the best, the highest, the happiest- and never allowing oneself to get into a pessimistic, unenthusiastic mood.

Believe in the creative energy that will unfold within in you that will reveal to you everything you need to know to attain what you want.  If you believe that what you are doing is valuable, important, exciting, and realistic, it will show up in your manner and your actions.  Keep close to friends and family who understands you, who believe in you, who will help you discover yourself and support you to make the most of yourself.  This may make all the difference between a wonderful success and an ordinary existence.

Whatever your business, your reputation and your success will depend in a great degree on the impression you make upon others.  To really attracted people to you and your business you must develop an enthusiastic, magnetic and attractive personality……… that is what really draws and holds people.  You must make people feel that they have met a sincere person. Most of the charm of a magnetic personality comes from important qualities such as serenity, kindness, modesty, consideration and unaffectedness.

Enthusiasm is contagious and before you know it you are infected with it. …your eyes will sparkle, your step becomes springier and your smile will be wider.  There is something in the atmosphere of passionate people who believe they are going to win, something in their very appearance that wins half the battle.  Keenness multiplies your power, raises whatever ability you have to its highest level.

The world will always make way for people with a passion for whatever they are doing.  You too, have this power.  Release your talents and abilities now and develop real Interest to learn more about your inner power.

There are two types of people who want to achieve success in life.  Those who have the desire and just talk about it, but never get started and those who have a burning desire and the right attitude.  The latter are fearless and work with intelligence, passion and a touch of anger - and they do whatever it takes and more.  A person with passion - real passion - - always succeed

Recent Studies

A recent study was done to determine whether relaxation and music therapy       were effective in reducing stress in patients in a coronary care unit admitted with the presumptive diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction. In this experimental study, 80 patients were randomly assigned to a relaxation, music therapy, or control group. The relaxation and music therapy groups participated in three sessions over a two-day period. Stress was evaluated by apical heart rates, peripheral temperatures, cardiac complications, and qualitative patient evaluative data. Data analysis revealed that lowering apical heart rates and raising peripheral temperatures were more successful in the relaxation and music therapy groups than in the control group. The incidence of cardiac complications was found to be lower in the intervention groups, and most intervention subjects believed that such therapy was helpful. Both relaxation and music therapy are effective modalities to reduce stress in these patients.
